Some people have good intent and make New Year’s resolutions but often forget them in a week or two. Have you made business resolutions in regard to your computer system? Here are some ideas to consider.
Anti-virus, anti-malware, anti-spyware software should be current. Remember the cyber attacks in 2017? Check that licenses are up to date and actively protecting your system.
Check the security of the system. Holes in the network can be created quickly and then forgotten. Firewalls, routers, wireless access points, and remote access should be checked for loopholes.
Clean up your pc. Temporary files and applications which are no longer needed should be removed and the trash bin emptied. If you haven’t run defrag in a while, now is a good time.
Deactivate then remove employees that are no longer part of the company. We usually deactivate for a time, backup files, then remove former employees. Security audits should not find former employee ids that are active and with access to the system. Don’t forget about temporary employees.
Physically clean equipment. Many times, dust will collect where fans are located in the equipment. It’s a good idea to remove the cover and clean with compressed air to maintain a good working environment.
Backup and restore verification. Remember the backup program that was installed ages ago? Is it still running and protecting your environment against disasters?
Daunting tasks? No, not really.
Time consuming? They can be.
Healthy? Of course.

Make a New Year’s resolution to keep your computer system and business healthy. It won’t actually say “thank you”, but it will keep working for you.
To a healthy and prosperous 2018!
